MARTELL, Amador County — Amador County operates a self-service sandbag location near its General Services Administration offices in Martell for residents responding to localized flooding.
The Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services says sand and empty bags are provided at the airport parking lot near the General Services Administration Building. Residents must bring their own shovel to fill the bags. The county suggests a limit of 20 bags.
What the program is designed for
Sandbags can help redirect limited surface water and protect vulnerable entrances in some situations. They cannot guarantee protection against deep or fast-moving floodwater, a dam failure or severe debris flows. Do not drive through flooded roads or enter a hazardous area simply to collect supplies.
The county describes the materials as available for unforeseen local emergencies and directs residents to its emergency services staff for program questions. Call ahead if access or supplies are uncertain.
City and county programs differ
The county says incorporated cities including Ione, Jackson and Sutter Creek may operate their own sandbag programs. People should verify which program serves their address and follow all local emergency instructions.
For questions about the county’s program, the public page lists the Office of Emergency Services at 209-223-6384.
